In 2010, the Capri Community Film Society bought the current building, knowing it was aging and suffering from years of deferred maintenance. Since then we have renovated and upgraded much of the theatre and its infrastructure. Now we are moving onto much needed upgrades to the front of the theatre to make a more attractive presentation of the front of the theatre.
With a vision goal of $750,000, the campaign will focus on two main projects: (1) renovations to the front of the theatre and (2) debt retirement. We have also set a stretch goal for the campaign, which aspires to $920,000 and would fund two additional projects, including stage renovations and upgrades to our projection system.

The Capri Community Film Society, Inc. is a community-based, mission-driven non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Film Society operates the Capri Theatre, Montgomery's only independent cinema. The Capri Theatre was built in 1941 as the Clover and was remodeled and renamed the Capri Theatre in December 1962. The Capri Theatre has been operated by the Film Society since 1983. The Film Society is supported through ticket sales, memberships and tax-deductible donations.
Our History
The Capri Community Film Society was formed in 1982 when a group of Cloverdale friends came together to save the Capri Theatre, and by 1983 had assumed the lease and operations of the theatre. It was the Film Society’s goal to bring to Montgomery classic films and others which would not ordinarily play at the theatres in Montgomery, as well as to ensure the theatre continued as an operating cinema. Although the actual programming has evolved since 1983, the Capri Theatre has earned a reputation for the quality presentation of a wide variety of films in a vintage cinema setting.
Our Patrons
The Capri Theatre annually attracts over 10,000 people for our feature films and other events such as children’s matinees, concerts and special screenings. This does not include events produced by other organizations such as fundraisers, concerts and private rentals. Although the theatre’s clientele is primarily concentrated in the area surrounding the Capri Theatre, we also attract visitors from all over the city and state.
